Microphone cables are available with a number of different types of connectors. Microphones generally create a balanced output in order to reduce the unwanted noise and hiss that can be produced by the interference of other electrical equipment. So that you can transmit a balanced output correctly, a microphone cable should have two separate signal wires. Some from the less expensive microphone cables are unbalanced.
