Most guitarists shy away from excessively technical gear. Because of this, they usually gravitate towards uncomplicated effects pedals. So the goal for most manufacturers is to put out pedals with only a couple of knobs. But occasionally even three knobs can be intimidating. Don’t allow this to stop you. Get in there, experiment and learn how to dial in cool sounds with your guitar pedals. If you are just learning how to customize your tone using guitar stompboxes, the MXR Carbon Copy is a groovy place to start.

Insert the Carbon Copy into your signal chain.

Instead of just plugging your guitar directly into your amp, you need to plug it into the Carbon Copy first. Plug the output of the Carbon Copy to the input of your amp.

If you have more than one stompbox in your signal chain you will need to determine where to patch in the Carbon Copy. Most guitarists put delay pedals at the end of their signal chain.

Understanding what each control does.

Delay:

The Delay knob allows you to set the amount of delay time from 20ms (fully counter-clockwise) to 600ms (fully clockwise).

Regen:

The Regen knob allows you to modify the total number of delay repeats from one (fully counter-clockwise) to infinite (fully clockwise). This knob works together with the Delay knob, changing the amount of Delay changes the amount of Regen.

Mix:

The Mix knob allows you to vary the portion of delayed, or “wet”, signal from entirely dry (fully counter-clockwise) to equivalent amounts of wet and dry (fully clockwise).

Mod:

The Modulation button allows you to add a certain amount of modulation to the delay signal. Modulation is an effect that changes the pitch of a signal by a small, regularly occurring amount, making a warbling effect.

There are two internal trim pots inside the Carbon Copy that provide allow you to alter the width and rate controls of the modulation effect.

Effect on/off switch:

Like most guitar pedals, the Carbon Copy has a foot-switch that toggles on and off.

Some final tips:

Begin with the Delay and Mix knobs placed completely clockwise and the Regen knob arranged completely counter-clockwise. Turn the pedal on by stepping on the footswitch. A blue LED illuminates when the effect is engaged. Now all you need to do is dial in your desired sound by adjusting the three knobs in relation to each other.

Don’t let a lack of experience stop you from twisting those knobs. Experimentation can deliver amazing outcomes.

Just learning guitar techniques is not enough if you want to develop your own sounds and style, so at some point you will need to use Electric Guitar Effects Pedals. Briefly described here are five of the most commonly used effects pedals that are used today.

1. Compressor Pedal

The Compressor pedal is an extremely useful effects pedal but is considered to be the hardest to use, and certainly the least understood. To put it simply, this pedal enables the guitarist to switch from lead solos to a softer more rhythmic performance, while maintaining a constant volume level from the guitar amplifier. So from the perspective of the audience, all styles of the guitarists performances are heard from loud to soft, and the overall balance of the band is maintained.

Another popular Compressor effect are those long sustained Gary Moore type held notes, to get that crowd rocking. Care must be taken however, as incorrect use of this pedal can result in the introduction of noise, or at the other extreme, result in a rather bland performance.

2. Tremolo Pedal

One pedal which is still used today, but was originally made popular in the 60′s is the Tremolo Pedal. Using this pedal produces a vibrato effect to a chord, or single note, by changing the volume of the signal. This effect, determined by the use of the pedal control settings, vary both the signal depth and rate of speed.

Basically, a sine wave is injected into an electronic circuit called a Voltage Controlled Amplifier. This in turn, affects the signal from the guitar. By adjusting the controls, the frequency of the sine wave and the amplitude of the signal are altered which controls the rate and depth of the Tremolo effect.

3. Overdrive and Distortion

If you are into a more aggressive, heavy metal style of playing, then the Overdrive-Distortion is a popular and simple to use effects pedal. The purpose of the pedal is to create anything from warm clipped tones to gritty or dirty sounds. Overdrive and Distortion pedals are relatively cheap to buy and readily available. Most have only a few controls such as Drive, Tone and Gain, which are more than enough to create a wide range of sounds. For more complex wave shaping abilities, more comprehensive O/D’s are also available.

4. The Wah Wah Pedal

A great pedal which is brilliant at enhancing both your lead and rhythmic performances is the Wah Wah pedal. The effect is similar to a human voice saying the word Wah – no, honestly. Varying the degree of the Wah effect is achieved via a treadle action pedal on the effects unit.

For reference, the effect is created by passing the guitar signal through an electronic low pass filter; the depth of which is controlled by the treadle. Although a very popular pedal for many years, the effects is now used extensively in modern day trance and dance music. Whereas the guitarist rapidly varies the filter effect, in dance and trance the top frequencies are gradually filtered out to produce a muffled beat and slowly restored again – generally to a rapid repeating drum riff.

5. Phaser Pedal

The final pedal to be mentioned is the Phaser pedal. The effects of this pedal are extremely well known and are very popular. To produce the phasing effect, the signal for the guitar is duplicated to produce two identical signals. They are then mixed together again, but slightly out of phase. The phase effect is born.

Which way to set up the Pedals?

When it comes to configuring your pedal effects, there are two ways to do it. One way is to buy a Multi-effects Unit which has all the effects types you need. This handy all in one set up is very convenient, but they vary in cost depending on what effect and parameter controls are available. Being processor controlled however, means that the effects and sound quality are very similar.

If your on a budget and can only afford one pedal at a time, then another way of assembling your effects arsenal, is by daisy chaining the pedals together with cables, as you buy more. Some guitarists even prefer this method as many have favourite pedals which they know very well, and prefer the sounds or effects they produce. The order in which they are connected is a subject I will not go into, as this is debated often amongst musicians who have their own preferences.

If you want to save money on guitar lessons, then you’ve got to stop looking at instructors, and start looking at self training systems. When you’re after the best, Jamorama Acoustic is always going to come up as an option. That’s because of how fast it claims to be able to train you at becoming a top guitar player.

What you’re going to find when you get started with guitar, is that it helps to have visual aides. That’s why Jamorama starts out showing you how to play, through really intuitive playing videos.

But what’s more, you don’t develop the muscle memory that some fingers need to play guitar well, and to play fast at the same time. If you can’t do that, then you’re never going to be a great guitarist.

That’s why you need something like Jamorama to get the job done. The videos on here are guaranteed to show you how you need to play guitar, so that you can become a maestro at your instrument.

The bonus of using guitar software is that you can go at your pace, but also that it’s so much more affordable. Two things that you’re not going to get from almost any instructor, and two advantages that make this a top choice for many aspiring guitar players.

All you have to do is have the commitment. You have to realize going in that guitar is all about the amount of time that you can put into playing. If you can’t commit a lot, you’re never going to be a great player.

Just remember to practice, because you can’t get anything out of Jamorama if you don’t put that time in yourself. If you don’t practice, then you’re just never going to be able to use this as an ideal method of learning guitar.

Here, you can go at your own pace, no matter how fast or how slow you would like to learn. That means you can go at your pace, and this is guitar software that you can count on to help you out.

Learning music is amongst the most fun and rewarding ways a child can learn how hard work pays off. How many adults in conversation admit to regretting never taking up an instrument as a child? Who can look at a piano, a guitar, or some other instrument and honestly say “I’m glad I don’t play that”? While the parent’s dreams shouldn’t be hoisted onto their children, most kids love to play music, and even if there is some resistance at first to practicing it’s common for this to diminish as they become accustomed to the instrument and begin to partake in the joys of music.

When you’re starting your child out in music it’s important to consider what they want out of it. If they show a strong inclination to music and a will to learn, it’s reasonable to enroll them into serious classes. But many students are satisfied just learning fun, basic pop tunes. It was a more common practice some decades ago to have kids playing classical pieces from the Western canon of music. This is great music, it hopefully everyone can play it one day, but if your child is happy playing songs from the radio that should be enough. Chopin isn’t going anywhere! The thing to do is make sure the teacher understands that the lessons are primarily about fun, but to pass along proper techniques and skills wherever possible. For this kind of student, at this stage of development, fun should win out where it collides with dense and dull music theory.

This is not a manifesto for watering down the talent pool of young musicians, but recognition that not everyone is Glenn Gould and some people take time to really delve into the instrument, and pushing too hard too soon turns them off. This is needless and tragic. Besides, the heights of great music are unaffected by young students having harmless fun at the entry level.

If your child has a serious desire to learn music you must decide what level is appropriate. You may still very much want him to have fun and relax, but perhaps he needs a challenge. If the latter is the case, matching him with the right teacher is very important. It may be the rare case where there’s no fun without hard work, and schmoozing and playing easy tunes is a boring waste of time. If this is the case, it may not be evident right away.

Pay attention to how quickly your child advances, what they can play, and how they respond to the teacher outside of their presence. If they insist on doing more, find a teacher who can challenge them. At the other end, your child might have ability but might care more about enjoying himself. It’s important to make this distinction and find music lessons Nanaimo that put them on the best track for their needs. A musical life is its own reward, and the most important thing is to make sure they continue.

Trying to learn how to play an instrument? Then be sure to visit Long & McQuade – one of Canada’s largest music stores offering a wide selection of piano lessons Ottawa and piano lessons Mississauga see if there are lessons in your area today!

In earlier days, the guitar was a really popular musical instrument to entertain people. When electricity in houses became very common the electric guitar was created. In the present day, quite a few musicians work with the electric guitar simply because it has many advantages compared to the acoustic guitar, such as a variety of special effects.

The electric guitar may be played anywhere provided there is electricity present. The electric guitars currently are smaller, thinner and lighter compared to acoustic guitars and they are favored by the majority of performers. There are numerous popular manufacturers available in the marketplace today and one of them is Roland Corporation.

What is Boss?

Boss is actually a widely recognized manufacturer and seller of effects pedals for electric guitars and bass guitars. Boss is a division of the Roland Corporation from Japan. Roland Corporation is a producer and seller of electric instruments, electronic equipment and also other items. Roland Corporation gained recognition during the late 1970s and early 1980s for providing high quality musical equipment.

Exactly what are Boss GT-10 Guitar Effects?

Boss a short while ago unveiled its newest product which is the Boss GT-10 guitar effects. They belong to the BOSS multi-effects family. This unique floorboard powerhouse provides a natural and musical response. Compared to guitar effects pedals being sold on the marketplace currently this product presents a marked enhancement in sound quality.

Why Should A Person Use Boss GT-10 Guitar Effects?

There are plenty of good reasons why an individual might wish to purchase this product. Several of the reasons are the following:

1. It has a fresh and original user interface that is really easy to work with. It includes graphic icons which can help someone very easily understand exactly how the floorboard is worked.

2. It includes an EZ Tone so that musicians can very easily get the precise sound that they desire. It can create natural tones and a lot of additional special effects that are only restricted by the user’s imagination.

3. It includes plenty of tones and advanced effects.

Piano lessons are the most common way to enter the world of music, and people have been learning this instrument for centuries for good reason. It’s fun, and with all the notes chronologically arranged, it’s easiest to learn music on. It is easier to move onto another instrument after playing piano.

Traditionally beginners start with easier version of classical compositions and work towards playing harder and harder classical music, but this is no longer the case. Teachers are willing to provide easy versions of pop music that their students are more motivated to play. But aside from the joy of playing and the beauty of the music, there are still more reasons for children, and even adults, to take up piano lessons.

It’s great for children to have a balance of time to play, do school work, and have another outlet that’s a kind of combination of both: piano requires concentration and diligence, but it doesn’t have the same harsh consequences or severity associated with school. It’s great for children to have an enjoyable payoff for their hard work so they can learn the benefits of doing a moderate amount of work every day. Adults have probably had this sensation in their life, but you can never have it too many times! Especially at a later stage of life, adults might even appreciate the gift of music more.

However beautiful, watching a musical performance is always accompanied in some small measure by a pang of jealousy, as one feels the urge to be the one in the spotlight winning the applause and admiration of the audience. It’s great to send children on their way to becoming this performer, or be the adult longing to play this role. Of course, this ambition isn’t necessary. Playing music alone is a tremendous joy!

Presumably the student is inclined towards it and there’s usually a more casual relationship between student and teacher. There is a difference between getting serious lessons at the conservatory of music and hiring a professional music teacher: the former is more rigid and rigorous, which sometimes actually has the adverse effect of making the lessons unappealing. Hiring a professional teacher can be a bit looser, a bit more informal, but it’s essential to make sure they are well steeped in piano technique, theory, and passion. So long as they’re not a high school student looking for pocket money, or a sketchy transient rock musician, the odds are the teacher you’ll land will be perfectly appropriate.

It’s hard to describe the ways playing music increases the pleasures of listening, but it’s true that no musician is the same listener after taking up the instrument. It’s easier to imagine the technical challenges of a piece, but it’s fundamentally not about the crude physical movement of the fingers. The musician perceives the movement of the notes themselves, not the fingers, and their dazzling swaying harmonies are enjoyed on a sensory level, where it should be. Piano lessons Mississauga show that the work leads to immense pleasure!

Long & McQuade’s Musical Education Center offers piano lessons Vancouver and piano lessons Ottawa. When trying to learn a musical instrument be sure to visit the professionals at Long & McQuade – one of Canada’s largest music stores.

There is a wide variety of choices to choose from to learn to play the guitar using software and other online methods.
If you want to master the guitar you're going to need some help. Everything in the world that you can do on your own is never going to help as much as having real lessons.

If you want to master the guitar you’re going to need some help. Everything in the world that you can do on your own is never going to help as much as having real lessons. That’s because it’s just too difficult to figure out all the mechanics of playing guitar.

You can almost always find combination packs from the brands that are offshoots from major guitar manufacturers. Like Fender has their Squire sets which are still good, but that are priced well.

You can also find more affordable gear from Gibson under the name of Epiphone. That way, you can save on the cost that you’re having to incur to get started as a musician, because it really isn’t cheap.

You’ve got to grow the skin on your hand thick enough to play guitar. You can only do that on your fingers by playing guitar more and more often. Otherwise you’re not getting anywhere with your instrument.

The main thing with playing an instrument is just like anything else. You’ve got to get educated, and you’ve got to practice. Without doing both things you’re never going to be able to make things happen.

You’re going to find that you have to know certain things like how to play certain scales, because that’s what you use to make yourself better. But you can only learn them through a teacher.

That’s where an instructor of some sort can really be beneficial. They are so helpful at teaching you how to play an instrument properly, and that’s always why they can be worth the big bucks.

Combining what you can learn from an instructor, and what you can learn on your own from practicing is the only way that you can get really good at playing guitar. But you’ve got to get to that step.
